COLOR AWARD 2022 to Grazia Varisco
This year, the awarded prize is presented for the first time to an artist. The artist Grazia Varisco is acknowledged with this award for her extensive artistic career, starting from the late ’50s and culminating this year with a well-deserved series of recognitions for her activity and career. This includes a solo exhibition at the Royal Palace in Milan and her participation at the Quirinale Stables in Rome. These are some of the recent events that have also led to interviews on national public and private television networks.
She delved into the study of color for an extended period, from 1984 to 2007, as a professor of Perception Theory at the Brera Academy. However, it is in her artistic works that she has been able to experiment with color, both as additive and subtractive synthesis, as highlighted by her artworks. As she herself admits, “In my activity, color is thought and used only as a functional contrast of primaries, with rare transgressions motivated by the unconscious that sometimes claims its existence by manifesting itself surprisingly in a positive, and also in a negative, way.
