COLOR AWARD 2022 to Grazia Varisco
This year the prize was awarded for the first time to an artist: Grazia Varisco, with this award, is recognized for her long artistic career that began in the late 1950s, culminating this year with a well-deserved series of awards. This year her activities were also celebrated with a solo exhibition at the Palazzo Reale in Milan and her participation at the Scuderie del Quirinale in Rome. These are merely some of the recent events that have brought attention to her achievements, also highlighted in interviews on national public and private television channels.
Grazia Varisco has dealt with color for a long period also as a lecturer in the course on the Theory of Perception at the Brera Academy from 1984 to 2007.
But it is in her artistic works that she has been able to experiment with color as both additive and subtractive synthesis, as evidenced by her works. As she herself admits, “in my activity color is thought of and used, only, as a functional contrast of the primaries with rare transgressions motivated by the unconscious that sometimes claims its existence by surprisingly manifesting itself in the positive, and, also in the negative.”
